Winton Round 5 - 2011
Winton Round 5
Qualifying Weather was very pleasant and stayed that way all weekend.
We started the weekend with Marcus Gordon, David Runkel, John Paterson, Steve Howard, Brett Dickie and Barry Megaw.
The track was not fast and no one seemed to know why, but Brett got the most out of it with a 1:35:8 followed by Barry 1:36:2 and Steve 1:38.7
We were grouped in with several MX5's and there was some concern that they may interfere with our guys running for a Championship.
After discussing the problem with the Clerk of Course he agreed to stagger the starts for the meeting by 20secs
Unfortunately Marcus Gordon had his motor expire and he had to go home early, a dropped valve or Piston suspected as the problem.
Saturday Race 1 Race started with a good jump by Barry leading Brett in the lovely little Honda they had a race long duel with Barry staying in the lead, Steve Howard had a steady race with fuel problems that were going to plague him all weekend and caused his retirement on lap5, Dave Runkel and John Paterson started what was going to be a pattern for the meeting racing each other to the flag Results - 1. Team 20 (Barry Megaw) 2. Brett Dickie 3. David Runkel
Sunday Race 2 Again Barry lead from the start and after a serious battle for the lead Brett passed Barry on Lap 5, this race Steve only lasted 2 laps before the fuel pressure stopped the car out on the track, bitterly disappointing for Steve as that was the end of his Championship hopes.
Dave and John had another great battle with John leading for several laps before Dave pegged him back and secured a 3 rd place
During this race Brett's new Gearbox jammed in 3rd and although he finished the race was unable to continue the Meeting Results - 1. Brett Dickie 2. Team 20 (Barry Megaw) 3. David Runkel
Sunday Race 3 This race was marred by the having only 3 starters as Steve was repairing his car, Marcus had a blown motor and Brett the jammed Gearbox, a very processional race with Results - 1. Team 20 (Barry Megaw) 2. David Runkel 3. John Patterson
Sunday Race 4 Again Barry lead from the start with Steve now back on the track with a car that was only performing to 50% but full marks to him he stuck with it and secure a second place David again performed to his best an drove the little Proton hard to get his 3rd Place Results - 1. Team 20 (Barry Megaw) 2. Steve Howard 3. David Runkel
Results for the meeting
1 - Team 20 (Barry Megaw)
2 - David Runkel
3 - John Patterson
Results for the Lightning Locksmith 2011 2 Litre Championship
1st - Team 20 (Barry Megaw)
2nd - David Runkel
3rd - Steve Howard

The Under 2 Litre Sports Sedan Club recently had a very enjoyable and informative evening being guided through the workshops of Garry Rogers Motorsport.
The cleanliness and the obvious organisation of the Teams Workshop was very apparent to all that attended, and this must contribute to the fact that this team constantly punch above their weight in the V8 Super Car Championship, having several wins and always in the top 10.
We were all very impressed with the standard of design and workmanship, attention to the smallest details was a delight to see.
It was good to see so many of our members in attendance to enjoy the tour and the Pizzas that the club provided.
We then had a short club meeting afterwards.
Wakefield is on soon and the entry close in a few days
Thank you to Barry Megaw for arranging the evening and a bigger thank you to Gary Rogers for allowing us into his teams workshop
