Presidents Message - July 2019
Last Updated: 08/07/2019

Hello all,

Firstly, the second 2 Litre Festival at Phillip Island was another great success. 29 drivers and teams tackled the famous seaside circuit in mixed weather conditions. Great racing right across the whole field with some awesome battles from the first race to the last lap. Congratulations to all the winners across the classes. Iain McDougall, Craig Lindsell and Brendan Woods outright places for the Sports Sedans and Matthew Boylan, Shane Eberhart and Lee Nuttall for the Pulsars. Blend Line TV did a great job of covering all of the races and can now be viewed on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLu1t3qhz4Nh-YHpc1A0Ja7ueqgLB4VvFX

While the racing was fantastic the whole weekend a great success. We had 95 for dinner at the RSL on Saturday night. And Irene, Louise, Louise and all those that helped, out did themselves again with a gourmet BBQ lunch on both days. A big thank to all the crews and the 12 APRA teams who made the trip from NSW for the weekend. We hope you enjoyed the weekend, you certainly put on some great racing.

Another year has come to an end and we have elected a new committee to take the club forward. 2017-2018 was a big year for the club, we made the decision to step out and see if the club could gather enough support to stand on its own two feet and put cars on the racetrack for its own race meetings. The back half of 2018 proved that we could, with very successful race meetings at Winton, Tailem Bend and Winton again in November. 2019 has been about seeing whether we could back it up and do it’s consistently. Last weekend’s 2 Litre Festival at Phillip Island was a big step forward to doing just that. The grid was a little light on with Sports Sedan numbers, but the racing was fantastic. The event was a great success and I see no reason not to do it all again next year. It’s going to be important to get more Sports Sedans out at the next 2 rounds at Winton to really finish the year off nicely. We as a committee understand that Sports Sedans don’t form quickly so getting new cars and members to the track while take some time, but we are planning for the future not the next 5 minutes.

Activity within the club is growing,

  • The Club Profile has grown dramatically
  • More cars on track each year
  • Growth in membership numbers
  • Inclusion of the APRA Pulsar Class within the club
  • Better promotion of club activities (can always be improved)

For me the most pleasing part of the last 12 months has been the club developing its identity in what we represent and how we go about our business. There is many people helping the club in different ways, getting cars to the track, hosting BBQ’s, spreading the word, making suggestions, arranging raffles etc. Fundamentally we have a group of people who enjoy being part of the club and are doing their best to get others involved and or being involved which makes the club a better place to be. The new committee has been given some great ideas and support to work towards making the rest of 2019 a big success and planning a bigger 2020. While we are looking for a new committee, please feel free to offer your help or skills if you think they can be of use.

To the members of the out-going committee, thank you for your efforts and the work you have put in. I think you should be proud of what we have achieved as a group. To the new committee I wish you the best in the continued growth of this great club be ready for some hard work and I’m know the whole club we be behind you.

See you at the track,

Simon,

President
