2004 The Year that saw Interstate Racing

2004 seen a 7 round year of racing which took in 1 interstate round at Mallala in South Australia. Two rounds at Phillip Island and Sandown with the VSCRC (State race) and one each at Calder Park and Winton Raceway with AASA. This year was the first year with the new class structure, it has appeared to have worked really well. The Championship saw heat at Winton, dust at Mallala, rain at Sandown and Phillip Island, weird overcast conditions at Calder but the best weather would have to go to round 5 at Sandown, round 5 was just great racing conditions.

Derek Dentry had a good start to the year after the disapointment in the last round in 2003 which cost him the Championship. Round 3 was Derek's best round for the year winning the round. Round 6 was a disapointing round for Derek also at Phillip Island, this did put Derek out for the rest of the year. Long time member but not an regurlar competitor came on strong at his home track Mallala winning the night race(something new for this year also), However round 7 at Winton was his best round winning the round. He eventaully become Champion and the new B class winner, the boy from the bush Anthony Koch. Australian Motor Finance sponsored all 7 rounds of the Championship, they also sponsored Andrew Moffat, son of one of the Australian motorsport legends Allan Moffat, Andrew competed in the Championship this year driving Rupert's 2002 Championship winning car, (Datsun 1600) in new red livery to finish 9th in the Championship. Rookie of the year Mike Kyval was to win the new A class, and long time member Steve Howard won the new C class.
