2-Litre Sports Sedans are go!

Plans are now well under way for the newly formed 2-litre (and under) Sports Sedan Series, with the first race scheduled for Winton on December 13. The Series will run three classes: Class A (1601-2000cc) Class B (1301-1600cc) and Class C (Up to 1300cc). There has been an enthusiastic response to the Series with Winton's Mick Ronke one of the many to pledge his support to the class. For further details call Leigh Warren ( ) ah.

Hot and sultry conditions in the morning followed by torrential rain in the afternoon saw some fantastic wet and dry weather driving in the final round of the Champion of Winton Series organized by the Benalla Auto Club on December 13.

In the under two-litre Sports Sedan class, 30 cars lined up with Peter Hall (Datsun) winning the first race from Peter Crocker (Mini) and John Morriss (Datsun). Steve Gotch (Fiat) had a lose at Penrite when challenging for the lead early in the race while Morris and Conway (Escort) had a race-long duel with the Minis of Turner, Hewson and Bell.

In the 10-lap race, with torrential rain falling, Hall cleared out with Conway closing on him lap after lap. Conway grabbed the lead on several occasions but Hall was able to repass him entering the Esses each time. Neil Wright (Colt) and Chris Muscat (Datsun) both drove excellent races in the wet to finish third and fourth. The heavy rain saw many cars slipping and sliding back through the field with Turner finishing fifth from Morris and Fay.

Crocker won the final race after a great battle with Turner and Conway, with Conway coming third.
